Life always intrigues me. We'd never know who we will meet and who turns out to be our good friends?. Ours is one such story. I met Raj in the fall of 2007 in RST (Random Signal theory) class. Our first interaction was filled with a blast of questions from me (as usual!). I'm sure that would have put him off right away. It was only in "Numerical Optimization" course in the following semester that we got to know more about each other. Lack of decent background in that course made us interact, discuss and bitch about the course et. al.
Raj is famously known for his miso-frigity (I coined this ;-)). He hates cold so much that he used to wear his famous jacket to class even in spring (even in April-May)! His strange fascination for heat reached its heights in fall resulting in a heater accompanying Raj to MIMO class! (That used to provide a constant background hum to the class ;-)). I hardly can imagine how he'll survive in the harsh Detroit weather!
He was my constant companion in racquetball (Although I never improved my game, unlike he). He is very sportive and always ready to host a pot luck or help arrange one. He is known for his chole and pav bhaji. Thanks for inviting me on numerous occasions. He is also avid hiker and enjoys scenery (including bird watching ;-)). His extra-curricular activities is not limited just to outdoor activities, but also includes some indoor activities like facebooking, chatting, etc. However, these hasn't limited his capability in academics. Bhat's wealth of knowledge in controls saved my butt in MIMO course.
Raj is probably one of the very few diplomatic, non-controversial person I have come across. I hardly seen him commenting anything bad about others. Witty in his dialogues, he keeps any place lively with his humor. He is also a strict veggie and I remember many occasions, where we roamed from one fast food place to another in search of a veggie burger/sandwich :-).
I feel immensely happy about his start of career and at the same time feel sad to part ways. Feels lonely not to have someone to call/ping when you are bored. Life is a journey. We meet new people and part away with old ones. It's one such phase here and not the last. Nevertheless, these memories will be etched forever in our minds.
Wishing Raj a happy and fruitful journey into his next phase of life and hope to keep in touch forever! Bon voyage, buddy!
:) Nice one.. got to know so much about him and you that I didn't know otherwise, through this one blog post.
ReplyDeleteI have something to add on to this.. I am not good at this.. I absolutely suck at wishing people goodbye! I hate seeing people leave me some place and leave. I'd rather prefer if I left the place b4 any of my friends moved away.. (ya, trust me it's that advanced!). So much at the risk of being called selfish, but I don't wanna live alone..with no friends around me.. defeats the whole purpose of life and fun for me :( :(
So here is one quote from my side for all the heavy hearts!
"Meeting to part is the way of life,
Parting to meet is the hope of life!"
Keep the faith, hope floats!
Raj, take care! All the best to you, in all your future endeavors! Had a really nice time with all you guys and ya, miss the food :D ;-)
Keep in touch.

Made my day reading this quote. Thanks a lot Madhu!
ReplyDeleteEverybody is selfish in the same way as you. E.g. I feel the same way when my friends get married. I love them get married, but at the same time, I feel as though I'm parting with them :(
@Madhu: Thats one of the best quotes i have read in a long time....
ReplyDelete@vinay: Nice post macha...Ellittidde isht dina? You should write more often....
The first time i met rajendra was at the airport in bangalore while bidding farewell to a common friend...That was in July 2007...Feels such a long time ago...We had talked on phone before about being roomies and i could feel him judging me from head to toe that day....Thats perhaps the most distinctive aspect of rajendra....He always knows exactly what he wants...It may be good or bad but never indecisive....He has extremely specific preferences....He will have a unique way of doing everything under the sun....Like when you take a sip of sambar to see if its proper, have you ever thought of scraping the bottom of the spoon to cool it faster? He has. And then the case of food city carts....No one has ever abused them as much as Mr.Techie has. Ever. If he had a baby, he would have carried it in that cart.
ReplyDeleteTons of memories with this guy. My first room mate. Will miss ya.
Hey Guys.. I am reading this myself the first time.. Thanks a Ton for writing nice things about me!! I did not know I was so nice.. LOL :)
